Dog Sledding, based in the Bykle Hotel in Setesdal


On this Adventure 1 trip, just magine driving your own dog sled through beautiful snow laden countryside of Norway, Sweden or Finland with a team of 6 dogs and your partner in the front whilst you’re stood on the rea of the sled and in charge! After a briefing on how to steer and brake, you’ll be off through the trees and across lakes to your destination lunch and change round point, hot stew drinking chocolate/coffee/tea, then off again to complete the tour with your new furry team mates. The following 3-4 days you will be out there in the wilderness camping out with your furry friends. During your time with your guide you will learn about emergency procedures for avalanches and general survival. Additional day trips can be organised including following the footsteps of the Heroes of Telemark, nights out in a mountain cabin, igloo and teepee. This Adventure1 trip culminates with a final dinner and presentations of achievement awards, photographs and video action of your dog sledding expedition. No previous experience needed.

Price may vary according to the amount of time you want to spend dog sledding, for a 4 day course begins at £1495 per person based on 2 people attending.


Outline Itinerary:


Day 1: Flight from UK to Norway. (prices may increase due to proximity of booking to flight date). Transfers to resort. Accommodated in base camp.


Day 2: Coaching on emergency winter survival procedures, avalanche awareness training and emergency snow shelter construction. May be done on Nordic or alpine touring skis, provided.


Days 3-6: On expedition for 3 nights and 4 days, ending at around 3pm on the fourth day.


Day 7: Possible additional day dog sledding if conditions dictate a 4 night expedition, or free day shopping, options to do ice climbing, dog sledding or skiing at a supplementary cost.


Day 8: Return to UK.




  • Accommodation in base camp days 1, 6 and 7, consisting of wooden cabin with wood burning stove, small kitchen, shower, toilet and sink. Whilst in base camp: breakfast, self made packed lunch and a filled thermos flask, dinner including desert.

  • Accommodation in teepee or snow shelter days 3-6, dependant on conditions. Whilst on expedition you will be expected to provide your own freeze dried or boil in the bag meals as required for up to 5 days.

  • All technical equipment (we will send you a list of clothing and other personal items to bring).

  • Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary, but as this is Adventure Travel in a remote mountain region, we cannot guarantee it. Weather conditions, road conditions, vehicle breakdowns and the health of climbers can all contribute to changes. The Expedition Leader and our local agent will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but an easy going nature will be an asset!
