The Grand Canyon is one of the seven wonders of the world with a maximum width of 22 miles and depth of nearly a mile. The overall silence and stillness that many visitors experience at the Grand Canyon does not hint of the geologic processes that are active today, or in the recent past, in the canyon. Except for the occasional visitor who hears a rock fall, or a rare large landslide, it is not apparent that the canyon is actively getting bigger. However, the erosion processes that originally formed the Grand Canyon are still active today as the Colorado River and its tributaries slowly cut deeper into the canyon. On this trip you will get to view the canyon in all its glory from sunrise to sunset, from the tip of the south rim to its bowels and raging Colorado River.
As with Death Valley, high summer can turn the Grand Canyon floor into a furnace, with temperatures reaching 49C (unusual); winter shuts off vehicle access to the North Rim entirely. The optimum windows for hiking are from late May to June, and from
September until the end of November. However, an expedition may entail beginning on the North Rim and ending on the South Rim, West of the village at Hermit Trailhead, depending on weather conditions. If this excites you, contact Adventure1.

The trail that takes you from the foot bridge at the east of the Grand Canyon heading West towards the next camp site or directly back out of the Canyon. Views are spectacular looking up, down or West of the Colorado River, sometimes seeing rafters on their 10 day trips down the river.

Red Rock Canyon
Price: £2495 per person based on 12 attending
Outline itinerary:
Day 1: Fly to Las Vegas and stay for one night.
Day 2: Driven via the Route 66 to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, camp in Mather Campground or stay in a Motel close by (included in the price).
Day 3: Administration and preparing for the descent into the Canyon.
Day 4-7: Walk from the head of the South Kaibab Trail across the Colorado River to Phantom Ranch camp ground, then to Cottonwood Campground exiting at the Hermit Car Park east of Mather Campground, camping a further 2 nights along the way.
Day 8-9: Travel to Las Vegas on to Route 66, visit the Road Kill Cafe, Route 66 Cafe and Hoover Dam en route.
Day 10-12: Stay in hotel in Las Vegas or Stone for adventure activities: rock climbing in Red Rock Canyon (free of charge), water skiing, scuba diving, mountain bike trail riding and rafting (prices on request).
Day 13-14: Return to UK.

Minibus travel and all accommodation ( 2 person rooms, single supplement is £300) including camp sites, national park and trail fees from and to Las Vegas for the duration including the itinerary items above

You should be capable of carrying a rucksack of around 10kgs and for walking up to 6 hours in a day, depending on the type of trek you choose. Our standard trek is for 4 days and three nights. For shorter or longer treks, please contact us for a revision of the trip price.

Options to do: rock climbing at Red Rock Canyon (cost free), jet skiing, scuba diving, wake boarding etc near Hoover Dam (prices on request).

Incorporated in the trip will be presentations on a mountain related subject in order to familiarize students with mountain hazards and emergency procedures.

Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary, but as this is Adventure Travel in a remote mountain region, we cannot guarantee it. Weather conditions, road conditions, vehicle breakdowns and the health of climbers can all contribute to changes. The Expedition Leader and our local agent will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but an easy going nature will be an asset!
